Brené Brown

The world of child protection and human services is complex.

Being a leader in this sector adds another layer of complexity and responsibility that requires different skill sets. One of the most important is knowing how to help ourselves, and those we lead, move through setbacks in a positive way.

As leaders, as humans, we all experience setbacks.  Any time something hard happens, we get hooked by emotion, and in the absence of data or information, our brain immediately makes up a story about what happened. This first story that we make up is rarely accurate and can impact our relationships with our teams, our clients, our families and most importantly, with ourselves. The Learning to Rise process is based on the research of Brené Brown, this is the key to rising from emotional setbacks.

Following the success of our Working with Shame workshops, we are excited to bring you more of Brenè Brown’s research based methodologies.  We recognise that being a leader in the child protection and human services sector is important, meaningful and complex work and burnout, stress and vicarious trauma are a reality.

Research shows that successful leaders nurture their own learning to grow positive intelligence and self care skills and as Brenè says:

“Leadership is not about titles or the corner office.  It’s about the willingness to step up, put yourself out there and lean into courage”.
